Vulval Pain, Vulvar Vestibulitis Syndrome (VVS)...

Many women, at some stage in their lives, will experience vulvodynia.  Vulvodynia is chronic vulvar discomfort, or pain.  One of the causes may be Vulvar Vestibulitis Syndrome (VVS), sometimes known as "burning vulva syndrome". Symptoms of VVS can include a knife-like pain, and/or excessive pain often on contact within the genital area - the vulva and vagina. Itching and burning are also common symptoms. These symptoms can become chronic, and can interfere with sexual function. Pain with sexual intercourse is known as despareunia.
