Vulva Awareness Day 2009
GAIN Inc thanks all those who attended, and helped in any way, to make the event as memorable as it was.
"What's Up, Down Under" was presented, by GAIN, to celebrate 'Vulva Awareness Day' at the FJ Clark Lecture Theatre (QE11 Medical Centre) in Nedlands, on Saturday 28th March 2009.
The lectures were outstanding - and GAIN thanks our guest speakers, again, for the time and effort put into making this day informative and challenging in regard to:
Pesonal stories of journeying with vulva and cervical cancer, and how GAIN Inc was formed, and why.
HPV, and how certain strains of this virus are responsible for cervical, vulval, anal and oral cancers.
Why HPV is a "very common sexually transmitted infection", and what it means if you get it.
The new vaccines, how these vaccines work, who should get vaccinated, and how.
Pap smears, how the laboratory processes smears, and what an abnormal result means.
Why Pap smears are a vitally important test for women to aid in the prevention of cervical cancer.
Why 'vaccinated' women still need to have regular Pap smears.
How the WA Cervical Cancer Screening Program operates, and how it targets women at risk - eg women in remote areas.
And, a good time was had by all, some great prizes were won, and 'Em' Rusciano was a delightful host who kept the event rolling along with lots of good humour and fun.
