| Each year in Australia more than 700 new cases of cervical cancer are diagnosed and over 200 women die from this disease. Globally, cervical cancer is the second most common women's cancer, which is why many countries, including Australia have implemented regular cervical screening programs (i.e. pap smears) to detect cervical abnormalities. After the sad loss of UK born Jade Goody, the issue of cervical cancer quickly became a high profile topic and the need to generate greater awareness of the disease became evident. Following this, Em hosted an information night about cervical cancer and the HPV virus for GAIN. Through this experience, Em felt inspired and determined to get their strong message out to more Perth women, subsequently Em & Sam Mac went on a mission to raise awareness of cervical cancer and the importance of pap smears. Over the promotional period 92.9 together with GAIN encouraged listeners who had never had a pap smear or hadn't had one in a very long time to call through on 13 10 60 for their chance to win a spot on The Pap Smear Express. Em & Sam Mac encouraged those who missed out to go to 929.com.au for the second chance draw. On Tuesday April 21 2009, seventeen anxious ladies boarded The Pap Smear Express to Marie Stopes International clinic in Midland where they each received a personal consultation from a qualified doctor or nurse.
